Self Help and Safety Plan (SHSI)

The SHSI is a comprehensive and easy-to-understand brochure that provides clear definitions of FDV, an “Are you OK?” check-in, practical self-help guidance, a personalised safety plan, and contact details for support services. Co-designed with CALD women and FDV service providers, the resource is culturally relevant, accessible, and grounded in lived experience. The SHSI was pilot tested in four workshops with 58 CALD women and service providers, whose feedback shaped revisions to ensure the final resource was user-informed and contextually responsive. A community forum with approximately 70 attendees, both men and women, was also held to gather informal feedback and socialise the SHSI. Overall, the resource is designed to educate, empower, and support CALD women experiencing FDV. A Short SHSI has also been developed as a concise, streamlined version that highlights key safety-planning steps and essential support contacts. Both versions are available online and will soon be translated into multiple languages to enhance accessibility for CALD communities.
